Maurice grew up in the royal family, he was pretty comfortable with it but never let the power go to his head. He spent time training with the royal guard, though he rarely uses combat. Despite his rough nature, he was very gently towards his siblings, to the point where he made a little bed in their room and stayed in there with them, him and Manic bonded well too growing up, and when his siblings learned to talked, they called him Marty (this was Manic's first word) since they couldn't say his full name yet,. Maurice left home when he was 16 to help with trades from another kingdom, but he went missing shortly after.
His family grew worried when the eldest prince did not return, but he was in the kingdom Vernak after he had settled trade ideas. But Vernak was under attack by another kingdom named Osan, both were very bitter about the other and Osan was territorial. He abandoned his lazy and laid back nature to help his trade partners, so he joined in on the battle. He fought for roughly six months until he had managed to kill an invading general (who gave him the scars on his left eye). During a small attack on the town Marty was staying in, a group of Osan guards attempted to kill the residence, but Marty managed to stop them before anyone was harmed. It was here he met Toxic.
Once the war had died down (after going on for about a year), Marty spent his time getting to know Toxic, she never really told him her real name since people just call her "Toxic" due to her job as a radiological control technician in a nuclear plant. They grew to become close friends, but it took awhile for Marty to ask her out, to the point she had to make the first move. But they are fairly happy together.
When he did reunite with his family, he ran into his imposter, which was Scourge in his super form. They did duke it out and Maurice won. He found out that Scourge did it to fuck with people and to ruin Sonic's family name, he was later arrested and sent back to his world. Maurice, now using the name Marty more, settled back into his life and when he was 22 he took a job at a nearby Apotos high school as an assistant I.T and often taught classes on basic machinery and robotics. When he got to know Sonic's friends he bonded a bit with Jane, and offered to be a surrogate father for her kids, which she accepted. Maurice often travels between Sunset Hill and Apotos.
He considers Scourge an enemy because the green hedgehog stole his identity and posed as him to destroy his family's name. They ended up fighting and both nearly killed each other until police came and arrested Scourge. Because of this Marty was now bitter towards his birth name and took the nickname Manic gave him as his legal name.
Fun facts: Maurice loves music, and often plays various techno or metal songs when he's working/He loves monster movies and is a huge fan of Dracula/He's never clear on his motives for things, but he does what he thinks is best when it comes to family/he often has a one track mind and is easily distracted/his hair often stands on end in the mornings/marty is sometimes empty headed, and can't pick up certain cues.
